Nationwide Observance of Swachh Bharat Diwas 2026 and Culmination of Swachhata Hi Seva
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti (2 October 2026), India observed 'Swachh Bharat Diwas' across all States and Union Territories, marking the successful culmination of the fortnight-long 'Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026' citizen-led sanitation campaign.

- Inter-Ministerial Convergence: Jointly organized by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS, Ministry of Jal Shakti) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), highlighting the whole-of-government approach to total sanitation.
- Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs): Mobilized communities and local urban bodies to eliminate difficult legacy waste dumps, black spots, and neglected public areas transformed into clean green public utility zones.
- SafaiMitra Suraksha Camps: Conducted nationwide preventive health check-up camps, social security scheme enrollment drives (PM-JAY, PMJJBY, PMSBY), and personal protective equipment distribution for sanitation frontline workers.
- ODF Plus Model Sustainability: Focused on consolidating rural ODF Plus Model villages with sustained solid and liquid waste management (SLWM), plastic waste processing hubs, and fecal sludge management facilities.
