India marked a major milestone in maritime research self-reliance with the launching of the advanced Ocean Research Vessel (ORV) Sagar Manthan (Yard 3041) at Rishi Bankim Shipyard, Kolkata.
Key Facts & Dimensions
- Designed and built by Defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Ministry of Earth Sciences.
- Equipped with sub-bottom profilers, multichannel seismic suites, Doppler weather radars, and launch/recovery capabilities for AUVs and ROVs.
- Directly supports deep-sea mineral exploration and polar studies under the Deep Ocean Mission.
